Warren Estabrooks and Lois Birkenshaw-Fleming, editors
This book focuses on four- to eight – year-old children who are deaf or hard of hearing. It consists of 51 songs that were selected by the editors as being fun to sing and that could be accompanied by simple instruments. Professionals from the global Auditory-Verbal community were invited to contribute individualized lesson/therapy plans using the songs as themes for sessions with the children. These plans include: background information of a specific child (names changed); targets in audition, speech, language and cognition, and musical suggestions by the editors to enhance the child’s musical experience. Many of the techniques outlined in these lesson plans can be adapted for group or classroom work. Almost every lesson includes a picture book, story book or game. The chapter headings include: Songs for Listening, Songs for Moving, Songs for Learning, and Songs for Life.
